Volos (Hellenic Republic)

• Country: Greece
• Population: ~140,000

Volos is one of the key port centers of Thessaly and an important hub of economic activity in the region. The city combines modern infrastructure, historical heritage and a unique geographical location, situated between the Pagasetic Gulf and the Pelion mountain range. This location shaped Volos as a commercial, industrial and cultural center. Today, the city is known for its developed food industry, maritime transport and university institutions that form the region’s scientific potential.

At the same time, Volos remains strongly committed to cultural traditions. Archaeological sites associated with the Neolithic settlements of Dimini and Sesklo give the city significant historical importance within Greece. The presence of legends about Jason and the Argonauts makes Volos not only economically, but also symbolically significant.

An important area of partnership was cooperation between the Don Theological Seminary and the Academy of Theology of Volos. This interaction included academic and educational projects, exchange of scholarly and theological experience and joint events promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue.

Special attention was paid to cultural cooperation. The Administration of Rostov-on-Don worked closely with the Russian-Greek Cultural Center in Volos, supporting initiatives in culture, education and public diplomacy.
