Kajaani is a significant administrative and cultural center of the Kainuu region. The city is characterized by a harmonious combination of northern natural surroundings and modern Finnish urban infrastructure. Surrounded by forests and lakes, Kajaani has developed an economy based on wood processing, biotechnology and digital services.
The city’s cultural life is represented by museums, libraries and educational institutions that support Finnish literary and artistic traditions. Kajaani Castle is a historical symbol of the region, it reflects its military and strategic past. Today, the city is perceived as a model of sustainable development, demonstrating a balanced interaction between humans and the northern environment.
Rostov-on-Don and Kajaani developed cooperation in educational and applied fields, focusing on the exchange of modern urban governance practices.
An important area of cooperation was interaction between Oulu University of Applied Sciences and Don State Technical University (DSTU), within which opportunities for joint educational and research projects were discussed. At the same time, initiatives in environmental protection and the introduction of a GPS-based public transport monitoring system to improve efficiency and transparency were considered.
