Dortmund is one of the leading economic centers of the federal state of North Rhine (Westphalia). Historically, the city developed as part of the Ruhr industrial region, which defined its role in coal mining and metallurgy. In recent decades, Dortmund has successfully undergone structural transformation, forming an economy based on the IT sector, logistics, scientific research and sports.
The city has an extensive transportation system, including a metro, trams and high-speed railway lines. Signal Iduna Park, the home stadium of Borussia Dortmund football club, is a major sports venue of European significance. Dortmund combines its industrial heritage with modern business districts and extensive green spaces.
During a working visit to Dortmund, the municipal service delivery system was studied, which later inspired the concept of multifunctional service centers. This citizen-oriented and accessible approach was successfully adapted in Russia and became an important component of modern urban infrastructure.
Scientific and medical cooperation played a significant role in bilateral relations. Thanks to developments and research carried out with the participation of specialists from Dortmund, doctors in Rostov-on-Don were able to advance in the treatment of pediatric oncology, increasing the effectiveness of therapy and patient survival rates. Active cooperation and exchange of experience were also conducted in the fields of burn surgery and endoprosthetics between City Hospital No. 20 and medical clinics in Dortmund.
