Gera (Federal Republic of Germany)
• Country: Germany
• Population: ~100,000
Gera is the third-largest city in the federal state of Thuringia. The city is characterized by a calm pace of life and a significant number of historical buildings, including villas from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, reflecting the economic growth of the industrialization period.
The economic structure of Gera includes pharmaceuticals, precision engineering, mechanical engineering and the service sector. Considerable attention is paid to cultural development: museums dedicated to the artist Otto Dix and other figures of the arts contribute to maintaining the region’s cultural status. Gera is also known for its green areas and developed transport network, including tram lines.
The partnership between Rostov-on-Don and Gera developed through exchanges of information and delegations of city representatives, as well as participation in meetings of sister-cities of Russia and Germany organized by the International Association of Twin Cities and the German–Russian Forum.
Youth and educational cooperation played a significant role, including school exchange programs. A notable example is the long-term and successful cooperation between Osterland Gymnasium and Secondary School No. 53. Within the framework of cultural cooperation, Rostov-on-Don presented Gera with an exhibition dedicated to the development of sports in the Don capital.
Sports cooperation is one of the key areas: Rostov triathletes participated in competitions in Gera and became winners and prize-winners of international tournaments. Rostov-on-Don also actively shared its experience in the operation of sports schools and the development of sports infrastructure.Принять
