Yerevan (Republic of Armenia)
• Country: Armenia
• Population: ~1.2 million
Yerevan is the capital of the Republic of Armenia and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Founded in 782 BC, it possesses an exceptionally rich cultural and historical heritage. Modern Yerevan is the country’s largest political, economic, scientific and transport center.
The architectural image of the city is shaped by pink and beige tones of tuff stone, which gave Yerevan the name «the Pink City». Major transport arteries, squares, monuments and administrative buildings form a harmonious and functional urban ensemble. Key cultural landmarks include the Cascade Complex, Republic Square, the Matenadaran (Museum of Ancient Manuscripts) and the Erebuni Fortress, an archaeological monument of the Urartian period.
Yerevan’s economy is diversified and includes mechanical engineering, light industry, food production and a rapidly developing IT sector. The city maintains its status as a major educational center, bringing together universities, research institutes and cultural institutions.
Cooperation between Rostov-on-Don and Yerevan is based on sharing of information and delegations of sister-cities, as well as the exchange of experience in organizing municipal services. Areas of cooperation include domestic and outbound tourism and economic partnership, including the supply of agricultural products. Cultural exchanges, cooperation between chambers of commerce and the development of new forms of interaction within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union remain key priorities.
Yerevan and Rostov-on-Don celebrated the 20th anniversary of their sister-city relations in 2025. During a visit to Yerevan School No. 55, Y. B. Slyusar congratulated teachers and students with anniversary editions of works by Anton Chekhov and a commemorative medal, invited the best students to visit Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog. The governments of both municipalities actively preserve shared intercultural heritage and advocate for the preservation of the Russian language. As a symbol of long-standing friendship, a delegation of the Rostov-on-Don Administration led by the Head of the City A. Yu. Skryabin, together with the Yerevan City Hall, planted trees in Tork Angegh Park.Принять
