Victoria is the capital of the Republic of Seychelles and the largest city of the archipelago, located on the island of Mahé. Despite its relatively small size, the city performs key administrative, political, economic and cultural functions of the state. Victoria is known as one of the most compact capital cities in the world, yet it possesses a well-developed infrastructure, including a port, an international airport and educational and cultural institutions.
The city’s economic structure is based on tourism, fishing and the service sector. The Port of Victoria plays an important role in foreign trade and maritime transportation. The city’s cultural environment has been shaped by African, Asian and European traditions. Notable architectural landmarks include the Clock Tower, the Botanical Gardens and colonial-era buildings from the British period.
Victoria is characterized by a calm atmosphere, colorful streets and close proximity to natural landscapes such as mountains, beaches and tropical forests, making it an important center of tourism and cultural life in the country.
Russian Culture Days are regularly held in Victoria with the participation of representatives from Rostov-on-Don. Cultural cooperation is complemented by active sports interaction. Athletes from the Seychelles annually visit Rostov-on-Don to participate in boxing tournaments, while athletes from Rostov represent Russia at the international «Fighting Gloves» competitions in the Seychelles. At the same time, negotiations are underway to expand cooperation in the field of education.
One of the most significant achievements of Rostov-on-Don was a film produced by the Youth Policy Department of the Rostov-on-Don Administration as part of the project «Media Expedition Russia-Seychelles». The film received exclusively positive feedback and was screened at the Second Russia-Africa Summit in Saint Petersburg. As a tangible result confirming the effectiveness of this cooperation, successful foreign trade relations were established: the company Miratorg launched meat product supplies and is now successfully exporting to the Seychelles.
